چکیده

Most current photosynthesis research implicitly assumes that the photosynthetic process occurs only at one steady state. However, since the rate of each reaction in photosynthesis depends nonlinearly on its substrates and products, in theory, photosynthesis can have multiple steady states under given external conditions (i.e., in a given environment). The number of steady states of photosynthesis under the same external conditions has not been studied previously. Using the root finding program POLSYS_PLP (Wise et al 2000, ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software), we study the number of potential steady states of a simplified model of the Calvin cycle. Our results show that the simplified model of the Calvin cycle can reside in multiple steady states, but that only one of these is physiologically feasible. We discuss the results from an evolutionary perspective.

A rapid-equilibrium model for the control of the Calvin photosynthesis cycle by cytosolic orthophosphate.

1. A simple model based on rapid-equilibrium assumptions is derived which relates the steady-state activity of the Calvin cycle for photosynthetic carbohydrate formation in C3 plants to the kinetic properties of a single cycle enzyme (fructose bisphosphatase) and of the phosphate translocator which accounts for the export of photosynthate from the chloroplast. Depending on the kinetic interplay...

A mathematical model of the Calvin photosynthesis cycle.

1. A mathematical model is presented for photosynthetic carbohydrate formation in C3 plants under conditions of light and carbon dioxide saturation. The model considers reactions of the Calvin cycle with triose phosphate export and starch production as main output processes, and treats concentrations of NADPH, NAD+, CO2, and H+ as fixed parameters of the system. Using equilibrium approximations...

Developing off-design model of Yazd integrated solar combined cycle for analyzing environmental benefits of using solar energy instead of supplementary firing

An integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) is analyzed at "off-design" operating conditions. Using the principles of thermodynamics heat and mass transfer a computer code is developed in FORTRAN programming language to simulate the system’s hourly performance under steady state conditions. Three scenarios are considered for the study. In the first one, only the combined cycle (CC) is studied. In...

Steady Flow Analysis and Modeling of the Gas Distribution Network Using the Electrical Analogy (RESEARCH NOTE)

The mathematical modeling of a gas network is a powerful tool in order to identify the behavior of system under the different conditions. The modeling can be performed both for the steady state and unsteady state conditions. It is possible to use the fluid flow basic governing equations or the electrical analogy concept for developing the model. The second approach provides a simpler and more r...

Influence of Operation Conditions Upon the Dynamic Steady State Performance of Switched Reluctance Motor

In order to obtain more accurate predicted dynamic steady-state performance with shorter computation time, an available mathematical model is modified and presented. Using this modified model, performance of a typical switched reluctance motor (SRM) under a wide range of variations of operating conditions is obtained and discussed. These include variations of speed, voltage, load and switching ...
